What a Private Dropshipping Agent Actually Does for Your Store
Most sellers who try dropshipping start on an open marketplace, pick a product from a listing that thousands of other sellers can see, and hope for the best. A private dropshipping agent works the opposite way. Instead of handing you a catalogue everyone else is already selling, a private agent sources products specifically for your store, negotiates with suppliers on your behalf, and keeps your product selection and packaging details out of public view. This page explains how that model works at The Dropshipping Agent, operated by Mutual Dropshipping, and what you can expect when you work with us.
What "Private" Means in Practice
Private does not mean a secret handshake. It means three concrete things:
- A dedicated account manager. One person works on your store. You contact them directly for quotes, orders and after-sales issues, and they know your product list, your packaging preferences and your shipping destinations.
- Private sourcing. We do not simply pull items from public marketplace listings that every other seller can order from. Your products are sourced for you, and the supplier relationships behind them are not public storefronts open to the whole internet.
- Your products and packaging stay yours. Your selection, your branding and your packaging details are kept to your store rather than shared across a pool of sellers competing on the same SKU.
This is the practical difference between a dropshipping agent who works as your sourcing partner and a marketplace supplier who sells the same item to anyone who signs up. If you want a fuller breakdown of where the two models diverge, our article on dropshipping agent vs supplier covers it in detail.
Private Suppliers for Dropshipping: Where Your Products Come From
Our sourcing base is Yiwu International Trade City and the manufacturing belts around it, including Jinhua, Yongkang, Pujiang and Dongyang. These are supplier relationships rather than public listings: factories and traders we approach on your behalf, quote for your specific product, and continue to work with as your store grows. That is what private suppliers for dropshipping means here. You are not limited to whatever happens to be listed on a marketplace page, and you are not competing for the same stock against every seller who found the same listing.
How the Workflow Runs
Everything runs through a single sequence, managed by your account manager:
- Sourcing. You send a product request; we return a quote. Sourcing quotes are completed the same day (China time) for customers with orders. Inquiries without an order take about 24-72 hours.
- Quality check. Every product is checked before it is stored or shipped. QC is free.
- Warehousing. Your goods are held in our warehouses, with the first 30 days of storage free at our China and US warehouses; storage beyond 30 days is quoted on request.
- Per-order fulfillment. Each order is picked, packed and labelled individually, then shipped directly to your end customer.
- Tracking sync. Tracking numbers can be issued in advance, and after dispatch they sync back to your store automatically.
Dispatch is fast for stock you already hold: orders for products in stock ship within 1 day. Orders that need sourcing first ship within 3 business days after payment. Shipping from China to the US takes 8-12 days in peak season, while orders dispatched from the US warehouse arrive in 2-5 days. We also operate overseas warehouses in Japan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Canada, France, Belgium, Czechia and the UK.
Branding Options
If you want your store to look like a brand rather than a reseller, we can handle custom packaging, thank-you inserts and product logos. Branding is subject to a minimum quantity and a separate customisation fee; your account manager will confirm the exact figure for your product. For a deeper look at how this fits into a store's growth plan, see our branded dropshipping page.
Pricing
Pricing is transparent and pay-as-you-go. There is no subscription fee and no MOQ on the dropshipping itself.
| Cost component | What you pay |
|---|---|
| Product cost | Per your sourcing quote |
| Shipping | Per order and destination |
| Handling fee | US$0.50, US$0.75 or US$1.00 per order, depending on the product |
| App, QC and warehousing | Free |
| Subscription | None |
There is no minimum order quantity. Sourcing and your dedicated account manager are activated once you have placed at least one order.
Private Agent vs Open Marketplace Supplier
Buying from an open marketplace supplier is simple, but it comes with trade-offs: the product is visible to every other seller, the supplier has no reason to prioritise your account, and your packaging is whatever the supplier ships by default. A private agent inverts that. You get a sourcing partner who quotes for your product, a named contact who handles your orders, and packaging that carries your brand rather than a generic label.
Platforms and Getting Started
