3PL Dropshipping: A Different Model for Sellers Sourcing from China
Traditional dropshipping has a familiar weakness: you find a supplier, list a product, and hope the item that reaches your customer is the item you advertised. 3PL dropshipping changes that by putting a fulfillment agent between your supplier and your buyer — receiving goods, checking them, storing them, and shipping each order individually. The Dropshipping Agent, operated by Mutual Dropshipping, runs exactly this model from its China warehouses plus a US warehouse, and combines it with sourcing and free quality control before stock ever enters the building.
What Sellers Usually Want from a 3PL — and How This Service Covers It
When sellers evaluate 3pls dropshipping providers, they work from a checklist. Here is the same checklist, item by item.
Receiving
Most 3PLs charge a receiving fee per inbound shipment and per carton. With this service, your products are sourced on your behalf and routed into the warehouse as part of the same workflow — no separate inbound process to coordinate and no receiving line on your invoice. Sourcing quotes are completed the same day (China time) for customers who have placed at least one order; inquiries without an order take roughly 24–72 hours.
Storage
Storage is where 3PL costs silently accumulate. Here, the first 30 days of storage are free at both the China and US warehouses, and there is no subscription fee to keep an account open. Warehouses do not pre-stock goods — you buy your own products and store them, so you retain ownership and control of your inventory at every stage.
Pick, Pack and Labelling
Each order is picked, packed and labelled individually, then shipped directly to your end customer. Custom packaging, thank-you inserts and product logos are available for sellers building a brand; branding carries a minimum quantity and a separate customisation fee, which your account manager will quote for your specific product.
Shipping and Tracking
Orders for products already in stock ship within 1 day. Orders that need sourcing first ship within 3 business days after payment. Shipping from China to the US takes 8–12 days in peak season, while orders dispatched from the US warehouse arrive in 2–5 days. Tracking numbers can be issued in advance, and after dispatch, tracking syncs back to your store automatically.
Returns Handling for Damaged or Lost Parcels
Damaged or lost parcels are reshipped free or refunded — the exception being when the recipient address provided was wrong. No claim forms, no waiting on a carrier investigation.
What Most 3PLs Do Not Offer: Sourcing and Free QC
This is the structural difference. Before anything is stored, products are sourced from Yiwu International Trade City and the manufacturing belts around Yiwu — Jinhua, Yongkang, Pujiang and Dongyang — and pass a free quality check. You are not paying warehouse staff to receive whatever your supplier shipped; you are paying a sourcing agent to make sure the right product enters the warehouse in the first place.
Pricing Structure: A Qualitative Comparison
A typical 3PL stacks fees: receiving, storage, pick and pack, plus account or platform fees. Every line is billed separately, and the total is hard to predict before your first month closes.
This service uses a single per-order handling fee of US$0.50, US$0.75 or US$1.00 depending on the product. You pay product cost plus shipping plus that handling fee — nothing else. The app and quality checks are free, there is no subscription, and storage is free for the first 30 days at both the China and US warehouses (quoted on request beyond 30 days). For a seller moving a few hundred parcels a month, the practical difference is a bill you can calculate per order rather than reconcile after the fact. Who It Fits — and Who It Does Not
This model suits Shopify, WooCommerce, TikTok Shop and eBay sellers sourcing from China who want to hold their own stock without running a warehouse. Shopify, WooCommerce, Salla and Lightfunnel stores connect through the app for automatic order sync, while eBay sellers typically work through CSV/Excel manual ordering — eBay is fully supported. Our Shopify App Store app, MutualDropshipping, has been live since May 2022 and is rated 4.6–4.7 on the Shopify App Store (rating checked 21 October 2026). There is no minimum order quantity, and sourcing plus a dedicated account manager activate once you have placed at least one order.
It does not fit sellers who need domestic pallet distribution — bulk freight moved between US business addresses on pallets. This is an order-by-order fulfillment service, not a US domestic distribution network. If you need broader marketplace coverage, review our order fulfillment services; for platform-specific setups, see eCommerce fulfillment services.
FAQ
Is 3PL dropshipping different from classic dropshipping?
Yes. In classic dropshipping, your supplier ships directly to the customer with no inspection. In this model, products are sourced, quality checked, stored, then picked and packed per order by one agent — so the item is verified before it reaches your buyer.
Do I need to commit to a minimum order quantity or subscription?
No. There is no MOQ and no subscription fee. You pay product cost, shipping and the per-order handling fee of US$0.50, US$0.75 or US$1.00, with the first 30 days of storage free at the China and US warehouses.
How fast do orders ship, and where do you ship from?
In-stock orders ship within 1 day; orders requiring sourcing ship within 3 business days after payment. China-to-US delivery is 8–12 days in peak season, and the US warehouse delivers in 2–5 days. Overseas warehouses are also available in Japan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Canada, France, Belgium, Czechia and the UK. Email info@mutualdropship.com for a quote.
